Aug 10th 2013.

Here's a USA member of a HD-Forum post Re: the new Indian, very interesting:-
"My lady and I test drove the new Chieftain at Sturgis. She was a passenger.
My thoughts: Talk about f**king torque. It just didn't stop. Anything above 2000 RPM, roll on the throttle, and you go. There are no lowers. But my lower pants legs weren't flopping at all at 75 mph. Not at all. The design of their fork mounted fairing far surpasses anything HD has ever made as far as wind buffeting.
No gear lash whatsoever with their direct drive transmission/no primary....
The electric adjustable windshield was wonderful (we test drove in the rain).
The seat height is way lower than my Ultra, or the equivalent Street Glide. It was effortless to raise it off the kick stand.
My lady's thoughts: Without a back rest, she was uncomfortable when I rolled on the throttle: Interpret that as re-reading my first thought about torque. But she said the suspension was wonderful. We looked at the stripped down model of its skeleton, and it appears it has one shock in the rear, fastened at the left top of the frame, kittykorner down to the right side of the swing arm. Aluminum frame. Unit construction (one hole, one oil, no more arguments!) Specs are for 20/40 oil. Indian Oil is semi synthetic.
Not too many options yet, but more coming.

"This could well be my next motorcycle, and I love my Harley Ultra. That's how impressed I was."

And we both got a Sturgis only patch for test riding! I wonder how much "hers" will be worth on eBay?
How much money do you think the Polaris/Indian unveiling brought into Sturgis? Mike Wolfe from American Pickers and the History Channel was there. Tens of thousands of people in the streets, drinking beer--IN THE STREETS-- by special permit! Well, I turn over the patches we received, and guess what is on the back: An "Officially Licensed Sturgis Product" sticker! Polaris had to pay a licensing fee to had out their own patches, because the word Sturgis is on the front !"
